We had the pleasure of working on a new project at the Langham Hotel in London. The location was the new Cook School 'Sauce', a venture being set up by two Michelin Star chef Michel Roux Jr. Head chef at Le Gavroche!
There are times we do not like making things easy for us at Design Plus. So when our client reached out to us and asked for an internal set of 30 minute fire rated steel doors and 2 external windows in under 4 weeks..... we said:
'OK, we'll do that for you'
It didn't matter to us that our lead time from manufacture to installation is typically 12 weeks. AND for fire rated steel windows and doors even longer. A site visit the next day and we were ready to go ahead with getting the steel windows and doors started.

Fast forward 4 weeks (actually less than 4 weeks but who's counting)...
And we are on site. 2 days before the official hand over of the Cook School for a soft opening. The main contractor is hard at work pulling double shifts working day and night to complete the kitchen in time. The kitchen is a retro design with reclaimed French furniture and metro tiles on the walls. Even the head cooking station is even a reclaimed AGA from Nice that has been converted into an induction hob. A perfect setting to use W20 steel windows and doors. Especially when our doors would be the entrance into the newly built kitchen.
PERFECT SETTING FOR STEEL WINDOWS AND DOORS
Even though there were the best part of 15-17 people working in one kitchen, the installation was completed in a matter of hours. You will notice the small black box at the top of the main door (photo left). This is a fire rated door closer that we powder coated to match the colour of the doors (RAL 9005).
The final result
The doors turned out great! We were happy to be able to supply and install the doors with a short lead time. We knew the urgency of the project and we were glad to help out. We just hope the rest of the kitchen was finished in time 🙂
